Valve Announces SteamOS

Valve's CEO Gabe Newell believes that Linux is the future of gaming. He has put his money where his mouth is with the unveiling of SteamOS. Based on Linux and available for free, SteamOS is an operating system that is targeted at the living room gaming PC. The move seems to be a natural progression from the Big Picture user-interface, which was Valve's attempt to bring Steam to televisions and gamepads. SteamOS, much like the Steam distribution platform, will serve to bring gaming content from any PC it is installed on over to your television. With Steam already being available for Linux, there is already a stable of games running and ready for the new OS according to Valve. Besides providing standard and existing Steam functions such as automatic game updates, in-game chat and friends lists SteamOS will also come with new features such as music and video streaming. SteamOS seems to be laying the ground work for the eventual release of the Steam Box console. With Valve planning on making two more announcements, here's hopping new hardware and AAA gaming titles are on the cards.

Review on my own laptop

This is a review of my own laptop which is MSI GE60-2OE.I got it just a few weeks ago.At first I was planning to get a Asus 15.6 inch G series laptop but sadly they made 17 inch and 14 inch only for their new Haswell lineup. So I went to find other similiar specs laptop and I found MSI GE60-2OE also Lenovo Y580 or something.I chose MSI in the end because of few valid reasons.Lenovo have a single GT750M card but it have a SLI option where you can replace the optical drive with another GT750M.I'll admit that eventhough SLI doesn't scale well , it still will outperform GTX 765M(my MSI laptop gpu) through benchmark BUT definitely not gameplay.I'm pretty sure SLI/Crossfire still have the frame stutters error despite it having fixed again and again.Besides , the optical bay for the GPU arent included so if I did went and get it , it would cost around RM150-300 EXCLUDING THE GPU(which is about rm300-400 depends on reseller). In the end , I would need to pay a lot more just for the SLI.Not to mention, I buy it for the portability and it defeats the purpose if the laptop battery(both MSI GE60 and Lenovo Y580 are 6 cells batt) died out fast because of the SLI , quality over quantity thats what I prefer.

Now ,

PERIPHERALS THAT I USE

I spent quite some fortune on purchasing all my current peripherals. Here is the list of it

Mouse: Razer Mamba 2012 (6200dpi ,1ms response time in wireless mode , 1000hz polling rate , 7 changeable buttons)

Mouse pad : Razer Goliathus Fragged Control Edition (Extended version)

Audio: Razer Moray+

           Razer Chimaera (Wireless Headset)

Keyboard:Some brandless membrane switches keyboard(not even worth mentioning)

That sums up pretty much what I have , I spent RM400 to buy the mouse and I would say it is worth it(sort of) and the mousepad is really nice and it makes the mouse glide easily.Meanwhile the audio , Razer Moray+ have a balanced sound , it sounds above average on all sorts of music but it lacks abit of bass though(not that I care much since I'm not a big fan of bass , on the contrary I think bass heavy audio speakers/earphones/headphones are just plain awful). On the other hand , Razer Chimaera won the bass but loses in other aspect such as listening to instrumental music(orchestra) with it aren't the most ideal thing to do.The only reason I bought it , is because it blends into my room and I could hook it up to my PS3 with a RC adapter and can still use it wirelessly too.The battery life are pretty good too , I'll say it is about 6 hours of non-stop usage before it dies out and needs to charge back by putting back onto the dock.Though I could buy a 2.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack for a wired(non battery consuming) headphone but that would pretty much defeat the purpose of me buying it.
